The U.S. Stock Exchanges

02:19
The U.S. Stock Exchanges The U.S. stock market comprises three major stock exchanges for day trading. Stock exchanges are businesses that make their profits from commissions and services. The stock exchanges compete among themselves by appealing to different business niches. Each stock exchange has its own unique specialties, technologies, advantages, and, of course, disadvantages. If you’re looking for an introduction to day trading in the US, here’s your basic guide. Meet the New York Stock Exchange The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) is located on the corner of Wall and Broad streets. It is the largest stock exchange in the world, based on the market value of the companies traded on it, and therefore the highest number of day traders participate on this exchange. The market value, known as market capitalization or “market cap,” multiplies the number of publicly held shares of stock by the exchange-traded price of each share. The market cap of stocks traded in the NYSE exceeded $21 trillion as of June 2017. The NYSE trading list comprises more than 3,000 companies. It wasn't so long ago that NYSE market orders were handled by humans known as floor traders. In those days, the execution time of an NYSE transaction could take up to two minutes. But the unavoidable has happened to the world's largest stock exchange. The revolution started slowly. Nasdaq, the United States’ first computerized stock exchange, became the model when it began operations in 1971. It took some time, but computers have now taken over most processes at the NYSE, despite strong opposition by the day traders. Computerized day trading has provided exactly what the public wanted: greater competition, fewer commissions, greater transparency, and higher execution speed. Meet the Nasdaq The Nasdaq (formerly known as NASDAQ when it was an acronym for National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations) was established in 1971 as the world's first electronic stock exchange. Unlike the NYSE, it immediately computerized all of its trade processes. From that point on, day traders no longer needed to compete over each other’s shouts on the trading floor. Everything was push-button. The result: commissions slowly dropped, the quality of service improved, competition grew, and companies of a new type issued stocks and raised trillions of dollars. Within two decades, and with the proliferation of the internet, Nasdaq was accessible in the home of every trader. For the first time, the road to private trading was opened, day trading classes were being offered as were more services for beginner day traders. We can, in fact, say that the profession of day trading as we know it was born with Nasdaq’s founding. Meet the NYSE American The NYSE American was first established in 1842 as the American Stock Exchange. The NYSE acquired this stock exchange in 2008. NYSE American is now the NYSE's market for small-cap companies. Like the NYSE, it now has moved its processes to quick, effective computerized execution. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe for NEW You Tube trading lesson here: https://youtube.com/user/TradenetGlobalUK?sub_confirmation=1 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Helpful links: Join my trading group: Get education & a Funded Account: http://www.tradenet.com/join-funded-accounts/?affiliate_id=35955&affiliate_org=2&web_page=&placement=&campaign_id=7010O000000fKjw Watch my FREE live You Tube streaming Trading Room: https://www.youtube.com/c/TradenetGlobalUK/live Join a FREE 14 day trial in my live Trading Room: https://www.tradenet.com/14-day-free-trial/?affiliate_id=35955&affiliate_org=2&web_page=&placement=&campaign_id=7010O000000fKjw Watch all my lessons here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLb9tmPwCEfFjZWiIEYa4BfF4BZX0F0mWz View the FREE "Part one" of my trading book "The Market Whisperer" here: http://books.tradenet.com/ Buy my best selling book at Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1540353524 Open a Colmex account (Non-US residents): https://services.colmexpro.com/registration/start.aspx Watch all my day trading live videos at: http://www.youtube.com/user/TradenetGlobalUK/videos Contact Tradenet: [email protected] Contact Meir Barak: [email protected] Visit our website: www.tradenet.com Germany: www.tradenet.de

How Can I Buy Foreign Stocks?

03:44
http://profitabletradingtips.com/profitable-trading-tips/how-can-i-buy-foreign-stocks How Can I Buy Foreign Stocks? By www.ProfitableTradingTips.com A couple of years ago Chinese stocks were outperforming all others. And starting a year ago Chinese stocks started a long and painful crash. If you had been trading Chinese stocks there would have been great opportunities for profit both on the run up in prices and in the decline. So you ask, how can I buy foreign stocks? Do I have to know the language? How about exchange rates? Do I need to first purchase a foreign currency in order to buy foreign stocks? The answer is that you can buy foreign stocks as American Depository Shares or Receipts (ADRs). These are traded on American stock exchanges so you can trade them just like any other stock in your portfolio. American Depository Receipts Investopedia defines American Depository Receipt. An American depositary receipt (ADR) is a negotiable certificate issued by a U.S. bank representing a specified number of shares (or one share) in a foreign stock that is traded on a U.S. exchange. ADRs are denominated in U.S. dollars, with the underlying security held by a U.S. financial institution overseas. ADRs help to reduce administration and duty costs that would otherwise be levied on each transaction. This is an excellent way to buy shares in a foreign company while realizing any dividends and capital gains in U.S. dollars. However, ADRs do not eliminate the currency and economic risks for the underlying shares in another country. For example, dividend payments in euros would be converted to U.S. dollars, net of conversion expenses and foreign taxes in accordance with the deposit agreement. ADRs are listed on the NYSE, AMEX or NASDAQ as well as OTC. In short ADRs make it much easier to buy and sell foreign stocks but what you have is still a foreign stock prone to the benefits or risks of a foreign market and currency. You can buy and hold ADRs or you can day trade them or swing trade them. What are the sources of profit? Currency Exchange Rates One of the ways to profit from foreign stocks is to take advantage of changes in the foreign exchange rate between the stock’s currency and the U.S. dollar, USD. When the dollar is strong many investors look offshore for bargains. There are ADRs for stocks all over the world. When the home currency of the stock you have purchased begins to recover you may see that your ADR of that stock is rising as well. Swing traders can use variations in exchange rates to profit from foreign stocks owned through American Depositary Receipts. There Is Always a Bull Market Somewhere Exchange rates aside it is common that while parts of the world may be in recession, other parts of the world may be doing very well. If you can spot these trends in advance you can buy foreign stocks and ride a foreign economic expansion while the economy stagnates back home. Then when the foreign market peaks you can easily sell your ADR for dollars and find the next bull market. Options trading is also possible in trading foreign stocks with ADRs so that you can leverage your foreign investments and limit risk as well. https://youtu.be/hnRqfqCw9pw

Top 10 Countries With The LARGEST Gold Reserves!

India According to the World Gold Council, the Bank of India currently holds 557.7 tons of gold. It is one of the largest stores of gold in the world! This makes up 9.9 % of the country’s total foreign reserve. Foreign exchange reserves is money or other assets held by a nation’s central bank so they can back the national currency. India, home to 1.25 billion people, is the number one largest consumer of the precious metal. Furthermore, India is one of the most reliable drivers of global demand. For example, India’s festival and wedding season, which runs from October to December, has historically been a major market for gold. And probably, one of the most interesting facts about India and gold is that India rarely invests much in gold. This is because as a country, India operates under the belief that buying gold leads to a deficit. And their belief must be proving right as things also seem to be improving for India. For instance, if you look at the last few years, India has increased its gold reserves from 557.74 to 557.77. While this might not seem like a lot, India is also at its highest point in history! In addition to what the country holds, Indian households which are considered the world’s largest hoarders of gold, hold a record 23,000-24,000 tons, which is worth about $800 billion. 9.) Netherlands In the past few years, the Netherlands has held 52% of its foreign reserve in gold. The Netherlands has a reported 612.45 tons. In 2016 it was reported that the bank was looking for a place to store all its gold because they were going to renovate the vaults and needed to moving it. The Dutch central bank is planning to move the country’s gold reserves from the center of Amsterdam to a new complex called the Cash Center. Like most countries, Dutch gold is also held in banks around the world to reduce risk. Security measures to guard the gold 24/7 have become a problem in Amsterdam. 189,000 kilos of gold will be moved at the beginning of 2022. Maybe this is one reason that over the last decade and a half, the Netherlands was selling off tons of gold in order to reduce its reserve. However, there weren’t that many buyers out there and they sold less than the country wanted. More recently the country has had less ambition to sell gold. Currently, the country holds the same amount of tons, 612.45 that they have over the last few years. However, the country has increased its percentage of foreign reserves to 61.2 %. 8.) Japan Japan is another country which had been increasing its gold reserves since the 1960’s. Their official gold holdings were reported at 765.2 tons. About 2.4% of Japan’s gold today is in foreign reserve. Historically, Japan has always held a bit more gold than other countries. This was true until 2011, when they began to sell some of their reserve in order to pump money into the economy after the tsunami and the following Fukushima nuclear disaster. But even with selling, Japan’s central bank has been one of the most aggressive practitioners of quantitative easing. For example, in January of 2016, it lowered interest rates below zero, which has helped fuel demand in gold around the world. 7.) Switzerland Prior to 1997, Switzerland was steadily building its gold reserves. In 1997, the decision was made to sell some of those reserves to bolster the Swiss currency and diversify the foreign reserves. The percent of foreign reserves in Switzerland is currently 6.7 %. Switzerland actually has the world’s largest reserves of gold per capita and currently has reported 1,040 tons. Over time, many citizens in the country started to feel like the bank was getting rid of too much gold. They then banded together with the “Save the Swiss” movement. However, once everyone was able to vote in 2014, the vote came to a no, and gold continued to be sold. During World War II, Switzerland became the center of the gold trade in Europe, making transactions with both the Allies and Axis powers. Today, much of its gold trading is done with Hong Kong and China. Around last year, the Swiss National Bank made a $5.9 billion profit, reportedly from its gold holdings. The size of the world stock market was estimated at about $36.6 trillion at the beginning of October 2008. The total world derivatives market has been estimated at about $791 trillion face or nominal value, 11 times the size of the entire world economy. The value of the derivatives market, because it is stated in terms of notional values, cannot be directly compared to a stock or a fixed income security, which traditionally refers to an actual value... The stocks are listed and traded on stock exchanges which are entities of a corporation or mutual organization specialized in the business of bringing buyers and sellers of the organizations to a listing of stocks and securities together. The largest stock market in the United States, by market capitalization, is the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE)... Market participants include individual retail investors, institutional investors such as mutual funds, banks, insurance companies and hedge funds, and also publicly traded corporations trading in their own shares. Some studies have suggested that institutional investors and corporations trading in their own shares generally receive higher risk-adjusted returns than retail investors. Participants in the stock market range from small individual stock investors to large hedge fund traders, who can be based anywhere. Their orders usually end up with a professional at a stock exchange, who executes the order of buying or selling. Some exchanges are physical locations where transactions are carried out on a trading floor, by a method known as open outcry. This type of auction is used in stock exchanges and commodity exchanges where traders may enter "verbal" bids and offers simultaneously. The other type of stock exchange is a virtual kind, composed of a network of computers where trades are made electronically via traders. Actual trades are based on an auction market model where a potential buyer bids a specific price for a stock and a potential seller asks a specific price for the stock. (Buying or selling at market means you will accept any ask price or bid price for the stock, respectively.) When the bid and ask prices match, a sale takes place, on a first-come-first-served basis if there are multiple bidders or askers at a given price. The purpose of a stock exchange is to facilitate the exchange of securities between buyers and sellers, thus providing a marketplace (virtual or real). The exchanges provide real-time trading information on the listed securities, facilitating price discovery. The New York Stock Exchange is a physical exchange, also referred to as a listed exchange -- only stocks listed with the exchange may be traded. Orders enter by way of exchange members and flow down to a floor broker, who goes to the floor trading post specialist for that stock to trade the order. The specialist's job is to match buy and sell orders using open outcry. If a spread exists, no trade immediately takes place—in this case the specialist should use his/her own resources (money or stock) to close the difference after his/her judged time. Once a trade has been made the details are reported on the "tape" and sent back to the brokerage firm, which then notifies the investor who placed the order. Although there is a significant amount of human contact in this process, computers play an important role, especially for so-called "program trading". The NASDAQ is a virtual listed exchange, where all of the trading is done over a computer network. The process is similar to the New York Stock Exchange. However, buyers and sellers are electronically matched. One or more NASDAQ market makers will always provide a bid and ask price at which they will always purchase or sell 'their' stock...

NYSE vs NASDAQ - who has more "mega cap" listings?

04:16
The two biggest stock exchanges in the world, in terms of total market capitalization value of the shares listed, are the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the NASDAQ. But which of these two stock exchanges has the highest number of “mega caps”? Take your guess and find out in this Finance Storyteller video. Historically, the NYSE has always had the largest total market capitalization of companies listed, while the NASDAQ allows a far larger number of companies to be listed, particularly those that may be too small to meet the requirements of the NYSE. The NASDAQ also has far lower listing fees than the NYSE. What are “mega cap” companies? Well, these are the Big Dogs! A “mega cap” is a company with a market capitalization exceeding $100 billion, some would even say exceeding $200 billion. Let’s take a look at a subset of the top 25 companies in the world in terms of market capitalization, in the middle of May 2017. 15 out of these 25 companies have their primary listing in the US, so on either the NYSE or NASDAQ. The Stock Market Crash of 1987 | Cancel Crash

43:19
The fragile state of today’s world financial markets is not a new phenomenon. It wasn’t long ago that the world braced itself for another Great Depression. It was the defining moment of the 1980's. The New York Stock Exchange, the epicenter of the world financial markets and backbone of American capitalism, was under siege. On October 19th, 1987, the Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged 508 points, the largest single day drop in the history of the stock market. But it was on Tuesday, October 20th that the world's financial markets came within 5 minutes of total disintegration. How was it averted? Was it a miracle? Manipulation? Or a lucky trade? Cancel Crash depicts the dramatic events that saved the world from financial anarchy and presents for the first time what actually happened on Terrible Tuesday. Framed between the opening bell on Friday, October 16h to the closing bell of Terrible Tuesday, the story unfolds as the perilous clock ticks, revealing those who prevented a global Depression and saved our financial markets. ======== tastytrade.com ======== Finally a financial network for traders, built by traders. Turmoil in World Stock Markets

03:03
Stocks tumbled across the globe Monday as two Wall Street institutions became the latest casualties of the worst housing crisis in decades. Lehman Brothers, once the fourth largest investment bank in the U.S. filed for bankruptcy on Monday. And Merrill Lynch, one of the largest brokerage firms in the world, was forced to sell its assets to deal with mounting losses. Some analysts say it may be the biggest shakeup in financial markets since the Great Depression. VOA's Mil Arcega reports.

How the Stock Market Worked: "The Big Board" 1958 New York Stock Exchange

Financial Classic Films playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLE7527E1C9F0B138B more at http://money.quickfound.net/ Explains the workings of the New York Stock Exchange as of 1958. Reupload of a previously uploaded film with improved video & sound. Public domain film from the Library of Congress Prelinger Archives, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and one-pass brightness-contrast-color correction & mild video noise reduction applied. The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Stock_Exchange The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) is a stock exchange located at 11 Wall Street in Lower Manhattan, New York City, USA. It is by far the world's largest stock exchange by market capitalization of its listed companies at US$13.39 trillion as of Dec 2010. Average daily trading value was approximately US$153 billion in 2008. The NYSE is operated by NYSE Euronext (NYSE: NYX), which was formed by the NYSE's 2007 merger with the fully electronic stock exchange Euronext. The NYSE trading floor is located at 11 Wall Street and is composed of four rooms used for the facilitation of trading. A fifth trading room, located at 30 Broad Street, was closed in February 2007. The main building, located at 18 Broad Street, between the corners of Wall Street and Exchange Place, was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1978, as was the 11 Wall Street building. The origin of the NYSE can be traced to May 17, 1792, when the Buttonwood Agreement was signed by 24 stock brokers outside of 68 Wall Street in New York under a buttonwood tree on Wall Street. On March 8, 1817, the organization drafted a constitution and renamed itself the "New York Stock & Exchange Board." Anthony Stockholm was elected the Exchange's first president. The first central location of the Exchange was a room, rented in 1792 for $200 a month, located at 40 Wall Street. After that location was destroyed in the Great Fire of New York in 1835, the Exchange moved to a temporary headquarters. In 1863, the New York Stock & Exchange Board changed to its current name, the New York Stock Exchange. In 1865, the Exchange moved to 10--12 Broad Street. The New York Stock Exchange was closed for ten days starting September 20, 1873, because of the Panic of 1873. The volume of stocks traded increased sixfold in the years between 1896 and 1901, and a larger space was required to conduct business in the expanding marketplace. Eight New York City architects were invited to participate in a design competition for a new building; ultimately, the Exchange selected the neoclassic design submitted by architect George B. Post. Demolition of the Exchange building at 10 Broad Street, and adjacent buildings, started on May 10, 1901. The new building, located at 18 Broad Street, cost $4 million and opened on April 22, 1903. The trading floor, at 109 × 140 feet (33 × 42.5 m), was one of the largest volumes of space in the city at the time, and had a skylight set into a 72-foot (22 m)-high ceiling. The main façade of the building features six tall columns with Corinthian capitals, topped by a marble pediment containing high-relief sculptures by John Quincy Adams Ward with the collaboration of Paul Wayland Bartlett, carved by the Piccirilli Brothers, representing Integrity Protecting the Works of Man. The building was listed as a National Historic Landmark and added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 2, 1978...

CHINA: SHANGHAI: US PRESIDENT CLINTON VISITS STOCK EXCHANGE

02:58
Mandarin/Nat United States President Bill Clinton was welcomed with a rousing applause when he visited China's biggest stock exchange on Wednesday. Clinton spent time at the new Shanghai Stock Exchange - billed as the most modern trading floor in the world. His visit wraps up the Shanghai leg of his nine day China tour, and follows a speech to the American Chamber of Commerce in which he urged China to open its trade markets. Anxious to get a glimpse of U-S President Bill Clinton, excited locals lined the streets as the motorcade moved through the city to the plush Shanghai Stock Exchange. Clinton's visit followed a breakfast with American business leaders and a quick coffee at an Internet cafe. Enthusiastic cheers greeted the President as he entered the new towering steel and glass building, billed as the most modern stock exchange in China. During the leader's visit, trading was suspended and the computerised trading board interrupted with 'big screen' coverage of the President as he strolled through the trading floor. As a memento of his visit, Clinton was presented with a red floor jacket by young excited traders. The President was clearly overwhelmed by the excitement of his presence. Accompanying him was National Security Adviser Sandy Berger, U-S Trade Representative Charlene Barshefsky and U-S Commerce Secretary William Daley. The Shanghai Stock Exchange is seen as a new symbol of China's march towards a market economy. And that was the main topic of discussion earlier in the day when Clinton had breakfast with American business leaders. While he praised China's market reforms, he also took the opportunity to call on the country to open its markets to foreign trade. As well as this he urged American investors to help China's battle with huge environmental problems - without slowing its economic growth. Clinton also expressed disappointment that there was little progress in an agreement for China's entry into the World Trade Organisation (W-T-O) - the group which sets rules for global trade. He had said China must agree to "strong terms" to qualify for membership in the W-T-O including opening its markets and allowing investment opportunities. That trade barrier has been the biggest sticking point in negotiations - but it did little to dampen the excitement of the President's visit here. Floor activity was bustling as indexes climbed more than 10 points. It triggered new confidence among traders who say continued strength in the market will improve investor confidence. SOUNDBITE: (Mandarin) "Today we reached a very high point. More than 10 points. We feel very confident in our Chinese stock market. If the Chinese stock market continues to develop and improve it will be good for us." SUPER CAPTION: Shanghai Stock Exchange Trader SOUNDBITE: (Mandarin) "In Shanghai it is all computerized. It calculates on its own and each person can be responsible for their own stock. This is different to New York. There they have a different way of controlling their stock and keep the market from swinging to much one way or the other." SUPER CAPTION: Shanghai Stock Exchange Trader The Shanghai Stock Exchange was founded on the 26th of November, 1990 and was open for business a month later. Seven years on, it is now the largest and most extensive securities market in China. By the end of 1997, the Shanghai Stock Exchange boasted 3-hundred-and-83 company share listings and more than 17 (m) million registered investors. The only exclusion are companies from Taiwan. We Just Witnessed the Biggest Stock Market Loss In History

19:25
http://undergroundworldnews.com More stock market wealth was lost on Friday than on any other day in world history. As you will see below, global investors lost two trillion dollars on the day following the Brexit vote. And remember, this is on top of the trillions that global investors have already lost over the past 12 months. It is important to understand that the Brexit vote was not the beginning of a new crisis – it has simply accelerated a global financial crisis that started last year and that was already in the process of unfolding. As I noted on Friday, we have been waiting for “the next Lehman Brothers moment” that would really unleash fear and panic globally, and now we have it. The next six months should be absolutely fascinating to watch. According to CNBC, the total amount of money lost on global stock markets on Friday surpassed anything that we had ever seen before, and that includes the darkest days of the financial crisis of 2008… Learn More: http://monetarywatch.com/2016/06/we-just-witnessed-the-greatest-one-day-global-stock-market-loss-in-world-history/ https://www.rt.com/news/348522-prevent-fleeing-eu-merkel/ http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/pound-sterling-falls-sharply-as-eu-referendum-result-continues-to-weigh-on-markets-a7105111.html http://www.cnbc.com/2016/06/26/financial-times-banks-begin-moving-some-operations-out-of-britain.html http://www.businessinsider.com.au/hsbc-european-stocks-could-fall-by-another-30-2016-6 http://metro.co.uk/2016/06/27/barclays-and-rbs-suspended-from-trading-after-brexit-finanacial-crash-5968816/?ito=facebook http://www.wcnc.com/mb/ext/news/nation-now/relax-brexit-isnt-the-end-of-new-world-order-column/275/6vPRv4KIG4EWYAIwK0MG2c Save On Official DAHBOO7 Gear with Code "5off" http://dahboo7.deco-street.com/ http://foodforliberty.com/dahboo7/ You can also cut cable bills forever and save $75 with code "tigerstream75" https://tigerstream.tv/go/tigerstream7/

Korea's stock market cap falls notch to settle as world's 12th largest

01:49
The value of Korea's stock market has fallen a notch compared to last year... settling as the world's twelfth largest market. Why? Well,... it's being partly attributed to the rise of the Indian market,... that is riding on the wave of so-called 'Modi-nomics.' Laah Hyun-kyung tells us more. The combined market capitalization of Korea's publicly listed companies crossed 1-point-2 trillion U.S. dollars as of the end of last week. Citing Bloomberg data,... Yonhap News reports... that Korea took one step back from last year, when its market was the eleventh biggest in the world. Analysts say capital is flowing to other emerging economies in the Southeast Asian region... especially to India, where new Prime Minister Narendra Modi is pledging sweeping economic reforms. Thanks to his so-called 'Modinomics',... India's benchmark Sensex has jumped 19 percent so far this year with the total market value surging nearly 30 percent. Korea's main index, the KOSPI edged down one percent this year. And although total market capitalization went up by 4 percent,... the actual increase will be lower because of the strengthening won. The Korean market currently makes up 1-point-9 percent of the global market. That's down zero-point-1 percentage points from last month... and down zero-point-4 percentage points from August 2011, when it was at its highest. Experts say foreign buyers are moving their money away from Korea because they feel that Samsung Electronics, the major player on the KOSPI, is not pushing for growth as strongly as they could. Another reason is said to be the weaker-than-expected performances by Korea's usual strongholds -- the shipbuilding and petrochemical industries, which rely heavily on exports to China. Laah Hyun-kyung, Arirang News.

Billionaire Ken Fisher Reveals His 2018 Stock Market Outlook

12:34
Billionaire Ken Fisher is out with some advice on how to prepare your portfolio in 2018. First up, remain overweight foreign stocks vs. U.S. stocks. He suggests a portfolio with material exposure to U.S. stocks, but well under 50%. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 is up almost 20% this year and that's in-line with what's traditionally seen in a bull market, according to Fisher, who is Chairman of Fisher Investments. "This year in the U.S. stock market is the average annual return of a bull market in history," Fisher said in an interview with TheStreet. "It's not an above average year - people forget that." Exclusive New York Stock Exchange Tour

The New York Stock Exchange building in the Financial District is one of the most iconic buildings in NYC. Located at 11 Wall Street, the historical site has been closed to the public ever since September 11, with only private meetings, bell-ringing events and school field trips allowed. However, we got an exclusive look inside. Watch to see the standout, historical items from the New York Stock Exchange. Read about the secret rooms inside the New York Stock Exchange: https://www.timeout.com/newyork/blog/the-new-york-stock-exchange-is-filled-with-historic-secrets-082117 We toured the building’s many conference rooms filled with historical items, snuck a peek at the invitation-only restaurant and hidden dining room next door, and admired the architecture of the board rooms that were there when it was founded in 1792. Standout items found inside the New York Stock Exchange building include the largest Fabergé piece in the world, a Led Zeppelin guitar, Andy Warhol art, a clock from 1867 and the Buttonwood Agreement, one of the oldest historical documents in the United States found outside Washington, D.C. There’s also an autograph wall signed by bell-ringers that’s hidden inside a hallway, and a map room that’s just full of, you guessed it, maps. Below all the history-filled rooms, there’s the trading floor—that’s where the stocks are traded. There’s also the iconic bell, the most famous item in the New York Stock Exchange. Currently, 36 media outlets film shows and live-stream from the trading floor, adding to the hustle and bustle. Even if you never get the chance to go inside the New York Stock Exchange, it’s worth visiting Wall Street to see the famous Charging Bull statue. It’s found in Bowling Green in the Financial District, and earlier this year, an artist unveiled the Fearless Girl statue directly across from it. What is The NYSE (New York Stock Exchange) ?

01:48
Welcome to the Investors Trading Academy talking glossary of financial terms and events. Our word of the day is the “NYSE” The New York Stock Exchange, often referred to as NYSE and "The Big Board," is the largest stock exchange by market capitalization in the world. Home to more than 2,800 companies with a combined value of more than $15 trillion, the NYSE relies on face-to-face trades, rather than electronic trades. The NYSE began in 1792, when 24 stockbrokers gathered under a buttonwood tree on Wall Street to sign an agreement that established the rules for buying and selling bonds and shares of companies. This agreement, or the Buttonwood Agreement, was named after the tree. The NYSE is the oldest and largest stock exchange in the U.S., located on Wall Street in New York City. The NYSE is responsible for setting policy, supervising member activities, listing securities, overseeing the transfer of member seats, and evaluating applicants. Unlike some of the newer exchanges, the NYSE still uses a large trading floor in order to conduct its transactions. It is here that the representatives of buyers and sellers, professionals known as brokers, meet and shout out prices at one another in order to strike a deal. This is called the open outcry system and it usually produces fair market pricing. In order to facilitate the exchange of stocks, the NYSE employs individuals called specialists who are assigned to manage the buying and selling of specific stocks and to buy those stocks when no one else will.
